CBS在新喜剧上表现无力下把歪脑筋动到《生活大爆炸TheBigBangTheory》的Sheldon身上，早前他们宣布开发《生活大爆炸》衍生前传剧，現CBS确定预订命名为《小谢尔顿YoungSheldon》的衍生剧，顾名思义就是以SheldonCooper为主角。该剧定于17-18年度播出。这部喜剧主角不是Sheldon成年版，而是以他9岁时为背景，剧集也会以《马尔柯姆的一家MalcolmintheMiddle》的单镜头家庭喜剧方式制作，讲述Sheldon当年在德州东部的家庭及学校生活。ChuckLorre与BillPrady为主创兼执行制片﹑SteveMolaro﹑ToddSpiewak与在《生活大爆炸》饰演Sheldon的JimParsons为制作人兼执行制片。在过往剧情中，可得知Sheldon的家人包括哥哥George﹑异卵双胞胎姐妹Missy﹑有宗教信仰的妈妈MaryCooper，以及酗酒的爸爸GeorgeCooper。另外Sheldon还有外婆（Meemaw）及外公（PopPop），外公在Sheldon5岁时去世。该剧由JonFavreau执导，IainArmitage将饰演年轻版的SheldonCooper﹑ZoePerry饰演其母亲MaryCooper﹑LanceBarber饰演Sheldon的父亲﹑RaeganRevord及MontanaJordan饰演Sheldon的兄妹（姐？）﹑AnniePotts饰演外婆。
